How to write a CD Review
Writing a CD Review Your CD review should provide readers with
information to assist the reader to make the right decision in purchasing a
CD.
The review should highlight a balance of positive and negative points.
The following checklist is to assist you in formatting your content in the
review. CHECKLIST :
GENERAL INFORMATION:
- The Name of the Artist/Group/Composer?
- The style of the music (classical, rock, pop, jazz, blues,
electronica, soul etc.)?
- The name of the new CD being Reviewed?
- Any significance/history to the title?
- The label being released on?
- The current chart rating/ expected chart rating?
- When released?
- The price?
- Number of copies sold to date?
- Type of reception so far?
- Anything Special/different? (e.g. Bonus CD, 2 CD compliation
etc.)
ARTIST(S) INFO:
- How long has/have he/she/they been around? (newcomer/well
known/known little)?
- The number of CD's previously released before this (if
known/applicable) and names?
- How this CD compares to history?
- Is evolution apparent (change in style)?
- Is it a surprise/same as ever?
- Does it work/not?
- Quote from artist about the CD? (If available)
THOROUGH BREAKDOWN OF CD:
- Initial first listening impressions?
- Impressions after thorough listening? (e.g. does the CD "Grow on
you?" etc.)
- Number of good tracks and names? (Include Favourites) and explain
why good? (justify your opinion)
- Number of bad tracks and names? and explain why you think so?
(justify your opinion)
- Any acoustic/unusual parts/songs?
- Can it be compared to any other Band/artist? or is it completely
unique?
RATING AND FINAL COMMENTS:
- Overall Rating? (5 stars highest rating, 1 star lowest)
- Individual track ratings? (optional)
- Type of person who will like/dislike the CD?
- Will Fans be happy/disappointed?
- On the way up/out? or Someone to watch for in future?
